International Sports Games "Children of Asia" were first held in 1996 with the initiative of Mikhail Nikolaev, the First President of the Republic of Sakha (Yakutia), in celebration of the modern Olympic Games 100th anniversary. Pretty soon they united not only Russian regions but many Asian and CIS countries.
Over 5 000 young athletes from 27 regions of Russia and more than 20 countries of Asia took part in the past four games. A considerable number of sports facilities and social infrastructure has been created during the previous period.
For many participants the "Children of Asia" games became one of the major sport events in life and sort of springboard into Sport. There are many examples when the Games` winners in a few years already defended the honor of their country at the Olympics and other major international championships and won prizes.
Jacques Rogge the International Olympic Committee President recognized "Children of Asia" International Sports Games as a prototype of the First Youth Olympic Games held in 2010 in Singapore. During the 30th General Assembly of the Olympic Council of Asia in Tokyo, Sheikh Ahmad Al-Fahad Al-Sabakh, the President of OCA highlighted the "Children of Asia" Games importance as a preparative stage for Youth Olympic Games sportsmen. All this really proves the Games` motto: "Children of Asia - the beginning of victories".
