Vladimir Vasiliev: "Head for the East"

October 9 there was a special plenary session of the State Assembly (Il Tumen) to approve the Vice Prime Ministers and Heads of ministries.

Among the latter Vladimir Vasiliev was appointed as new Minister of Federal Affairs and External Relations of the Republic of Sakha (Yakutia).

Vladimir Vasiliev, Minister of Federal Affairs and External Relations:

-      At the moment, the Ministry has 4 priority areas: humanitarian and international cooperation, federal relations, foreign trade and investment activities, image policy. I will try to keep the same structure and format of the Ministry, although I plan to expand a scope of activity. Now the Ministry maintains close ties with "The Northern Forum" and UNESCO, but we want to attract other international organizations, programs of the United Nations, the International Committee of the Arctic and the Russian Arctic Council. We will monitor the change in the Russian foreign policy. Now it is well-known that the preference point is the East. We will work in the association of regional administrations of Northeast Asia, which includes 69 regions of Japan, the two Koreas, Mongolia, Russia and China. The Russian Federation pays special attention to the BRICS and the SCO. We will see where, in what regions, we are able to establish closer links.

Concerning the Ministry's personnel policy, I would say that now the consultations on the deputies are going on, I have been working with this Ministry for quite a long time, and I know all the staff, all coping well. In the near future I will provide recommendations for the deputies. With regard to the Department for the peoples, before December 1 proposals from the Ministry will be collected. I am confident that the Department will retain its positions.
