Russia will build up military infrastructure in the Arctic

 Today the paramount task for the troops of the East of Russia is to build up the military infrastructure in the Arctic and to develop new airtechnics. This was stated by the Eastern Military District Commander, Colonel General Sergey Surovikin, opening a visiting session of the Military Council of the Eastern Military District.


In view of the renewal of a permanent presence of the Pacific Fleet, Air Force and Air Defense in the Arctic zone, issues on equipment of territories of potential dislocation divisions, airfield network and the fleet stationing bases are of paramount importance”, - ITAR-TASS quotes the General.


Active rearmament of district troops is on schedule.  The fighter aviation units are actively mastering the Su-30 SM, Su-35, and air bases of Army Aviation - Mi-8 AMTSh and Ka-52 helicopters.


Four modernized anti-submarine aircrafts IL-38 N will soon replenish naval aviation units of the Pacific Fleet”, - said Surovikin.


In this context and in view of the expansion of geography of combat training missions performance to northern latitudes, the issues of development and operation of new and upgraded aircraft require focused attention, the Commander said.
