Sports and Anniversary

Many important events took place in the life of the Republic in 2012.

Each year it is customary to make a summary, analyze and plan the future. Valery Maximov, Minister for Federal Relations and External Affairs of the Sakha Republic (Yakutia), reports on the results of 2012.

Games for athletes
This year, the ministry accomplished and achieved many goals that had been set before them. Two of the most important events for them and for the Republic were the V International Sports Games “Children of Asia” and the events dedicated to the 380th anniversary of Yakutia’s entry into the Russian state.
International Games “Children of Asia” are held in the Sakha Republic (Yakutia) every four years. From 4th to 16th of July 2012 the V International Sports Games “Children of Asia” were held as part of the International Sports Forum “Russia – a Sporting Country” in the cities of Yakutsk, Mirny and Neryungri. They received the patronage of the International Olympic Committee (IOC) of UNESCO, as well as organizational and technical support of the Olympic Council of Asia (OCA) and a letter of support of UNICEF. The V International Sports Games “Children of Asia” were attended by teams from 26 foreign countries, three Federal Districts (the Far Eastern, the Siberian and the Urals) and three Russian regions (Tatarstan, Bashkortostan and the city of Moscow) as well as by two delegations from the Sakha Republic (Yakutia) – a total of 2131 people.
Games’ Events were attended by about 50 foreign honorary guests, including the UNESCO Deputy Director-General Ms Pilar Alvarez-Laso, Vice President of OCA - Mr. Ghafoor Arslanbek Rakhimov, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Indonesia in the Russian Federation and in the Republic of Belarus Mr. Jauhari Oratmangun, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the State of Palestine in the Russian Federation Mr. Fayed Mustafa, Minister of Culture of Bangladesh Mr. Promod Mankin, Deputy Minister of Culture, Youth and Sports of the State of Brunei Darussalam Ms. Adina Othman, heads of National Olympic Committees of Iran, Kuwait, Nepal, UAE, Palestine and Syria, Mayor of the city of Ancient Olympia Mr. Euthymios Kotzias. Russian Ambassador at Large of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation Valery Kuzmin and Russian Sports Minister Vitaly Mutko were among the honored guests.
Undoubtedly, these games have become one of the largest international events for the Sakha Republic (Yakutia).

What we are united by
Celebration of the 380th anniversary of Yakutia’s entry into the Russian state at such cities as Khabarovsk, Moscow and St. Petersburg was another grandiose event for the Republic. These certainly are our special events that make us one people, the citizens of Russia, what unites us and at the same time reminds about the past and the development of our relations.
Days of the Sakha Republic (Yakutia) to mark the 380th anniversary of the entry of Yakutia to the Russian state took place in Khabarovsk on September, 12-14. The official delegation of the Sakha Republic (Yakutia), headed by Dmitry Glushko, Vice-President of the Sakha Republic (Yakutia), participated in the event. Business, scientific and cultural events were held as part of the Days.
In the Official Reception House of the Government of the Khabarovsk Territory three exhibitions were held: of innovative projects, of the Yakutsk State United Museum of History and Culture of the North named after Emilian Yaroslavsky and the National Archives of the Sakha Republic (Yakutia), of the National Library.
At the exhibition of innovative projects, research organizations and small innovative enterprises of Yakutia presented biopharmaceuticals and cosmetics products made of reindeer antlers, new materials based on basalt composites, polymeric materials for northern conditions, technologies for pro-biotics usage, cryo-reservoir for seeds in the perennial permafrost, etc.

From enterprises to violinists
Scientists of the Siberian and the Far Eastern Branches of the Russian Academy of Sciences, the scientific community of the Sakha Republic (Yakutia), the Khabarovsk Territory and the Sakhalin region took part in the scientific and practical conference “The Role of Yakutia in the Development of the Far East”, which became one of the most significant events dedicated to the 380th anniversary of Yakutia’s entry into the Russian state of the Days of the Sakha Republic (Yakutia).
On September 13th an agreement on cooperation between the State Assembly (Il Tumen) of the Sakha Republic (Yakutia) and the Legislative Duma of the Khabarovsk Territory was signed. An agreement between the Chamber of Commerce of the Sakha Republic (Yakutia) and the Chamber of Commerce of the Khabarovsk Territory was signed as well.
A Board of the business communities of the two regions, attended by 30 companies from the Republic, took place in the framework of the Days. There were made presentations of such companies as the South Yakutia Development Corporation, a regional insurance company “Sterkh”, “Basaltic Materials Plant”, “Yakutsky Rybzavod”, “Skif”, ”Sakha Aydysh” and others.
The grand opening of the first operational office of JSCB “Almazergienbank”, which took residence in the building of the Permanent Mission of the Sakha Republic (Yakutia) in Khabarovsk, was held.
Exhibitions of Yakut painting, arts and crafts, showpieces of the State collection from the “Treasury of Yakutia”, a book exhibition “From a Yakut Burg – to the East, towards the Sun ...” were organized as part of the cultural program. In addition, the festival of the Yakut cinema, performances of the Actor and Puppet Theater from Neryungri, concerts of the State violin ensemble “Virtuosos of Yakutia”, the Yakutian State Concert Orchestra, the State Opera and Ballet Theatre, the gala concert of masters of the arts of Yakutia were held.

In addition, a series of international visits aiming at presenting of the cultural, scientific, sporting, and investment potential of the Sakha Republic (Yakutia) took place in the outgoing year. We plan to pursue such practice in days to come.
