Honor and Responsibility

Yakutia welcomes «Russia is a Sports Power» International Forum.

The «Russia is a Sports Power» International Forum, which took place in Saransk, proved its status as a unique professional platform for discussion and creating approaches to dealing with the relevant issues concerning physical education and sport, and for increasing the international cooperation in sport. The fact that Yakutsk, the capital of the Sakha Republic (Yakutia), is hosting the Forum this summer indicates the trust of the Russian President and the sports community in the best way possible.
The largest sports event in Yakutia history starts off on July 4, 2012, in Yakutsk. Hosting the V «Children of Asia» International Sports Games puts a double responsibility on all Yakutia residents, since it is the first time the Games are held as part of the «Russia is a Sports Power» International Sports Forum. As Egor Borisov, the President of Yakutia, has pointed out in his speech, the event is of international significance and not only plays a vital part as far as promoting the sports values and Olympic ideas, and nurturing the younger generation are concerned, but is of fundamental political importance to the country.
Mr. Egor Borisov has highlighted once again that the privilege of hosting such a grand event is a tremendous responsibility. At the same time, it is a great honor and an opportunity to make a name for the region and to let everyone see the culture and traditions of multiethnic Yakutia, its economic potential and investment possibilities. Arranging such large-scale events has long-term benefits, including enhancement of the host’s reputation and improvement of its social infrastructure and amenities. This is conclusively proved by the rapid development of Vladivostok and Primorsky Krai, which will host the APEC Summit in September, Kazan and the Republic of Tatarstan, where the World University Games are to take place in 2013, and the 2014 Winter Olympics venue, Sochi, and Krasnodar Krai. Hosting the «Russia is a Sports Power» Forum and the anniversary «Children of Asia» Games is providing such impetus for development of the Sakha Republic (Yakutia).
Extra funds have been allocated from the federal treasury and non-government sources to hold these events. Extensive construction of up-to-date sports venues and facilities along with a passenger terminal of Yakutsk airport is under way, streets and roads are being renovated, and the city’s overall appearance is being improved by clearing dilapidated and dangerous buildings and moving hundreds of families to new housing blocks.
The «Children of Asia» Games will take place in three cities of Yakutia, i.e. Yakutsk, Mirny, and Neryungri. A record number of participants from Russian regions and other countries are to visit Yakutia for the Forum and the Games. Special guests will include the heads of Russian regions, leading international sports organizations, renowned athletes and coaches. The Yakut people are famous for their warm hospitality.
