Wife of Japanese Prime Minister impressed by Yakutian hapsagay wrestling

An agreement to hold the Year of the Russian-Japanese exchange in the field of martial arts has been reached between President Vladimir Putin and Head of the Cabinet of Ministers Shinzo Abe during his visit to Moscow in April last year.

Wife of Japan's Prime Minister has admitted that she was very impressed by Sambo and Yakut national wrestling hapsagay. Akie Abe said about it in an interview for RIA Novosti after the performance of the Russian delegation at the demonstration of national and traditional martial arts of the Russian Federation.

An agreement to hold the Year of the Russian-Japanese exchange in the field of martial arts has been reached between President Vladimir Putin and Head of the Cabinet of Ministers Shinzo Abe during his visit to Moscow in April last year. From November 5 to November 12, the Japanese delegation will represent nine kinds of modern martial arts and three ancient ones. The delegation of 75 people will visit Moscow.

“In Sambo motions are very fast and strong. Such strength can overcome anything. It's not like the old Japanese martial arts, but the common is that the goal is not just to win, but to feel the opponent, to meet him face to face. This is my impression”, - said the wife of the Japanese Prime Minister, who herself goes in for in naginata wrestling with long swords- a type of Japanese martial arts.

“I was impressed by the national wrestling hapsagay of Yakutia. The performance was accompanied by unusual music, giving the impression that this is not just a sport, but something, going to heaven. Something very spiritual”, - added Akie Abe.
