Yakutsk to Celebrate International Day of Indigenous People

 National and ceremonial celebration of indigenous peoples of Yakutia “Kocheviye 2014 (Camping Ground) “ will be held on August 9 in Yakutsk on the Ordzhonikidze Square. The event is timed to coincide with the International Day of World's Indigenous People.


As Media Office of the Department of Peoples of the Republic of Sakha (Yakutia) reports, this day welcomes citizens to a gala concert "Live Sounds of the Arctic," the Games of Peoples of the North, Round  Dance Festival, Craftsmen Exhibition. According to organizers, they prepared a program which is unique in its form and content:” The event is entirely dedicated to the indigenous peoples of the world, the richness and originality of their traditions and the particular contribution that they make to world culture”. It is worth noting that the Festival will be celebrated not only in Yakutsk: themed nights, welcome days, festivals and competitions will also take place in the regions and towns of the Republic.

In addition, the winners of competitive selection will be announced to provide subsidies to socially oriented non-profit organizations in strengthening civil unity and harmonization of interethnic relations. In 2014 the federal budget subsidies are granted for the implementation of the Federal Target Program “Strengthening the unity of the Russian nation and ethnic -cultural development of the peoples of Russia”.
