Yakut rescuers received departmental awards for courage

On September 25, 2013, 29 Yakut rescuers were awarded departmental medals and buttons of the Russian Ministry of Emergency Situations for the participation in rectification of flood consequences in the Far East.

The Yakut specialists began their large-scale rescue operation with Konstantinovka village of the Amur Region. They helped local people to strengthen dams; delivered food, water and medicine to villagers who did not want to leave their homes and stayed in flooded areas. They carried people to the “mainland” and back on boats and helped to save their property from the approaching water.

After the flood situation improvement in the Amur Region, the Yakut rescuers were transferred to the Khabarovsk Territory, where the Amur high water was moving to Komsomolsk-on-Amur and nearby villages. They helped local people to struggle with the water element there.

The Department leadership appreciated the invaluable contribution of the Yakut rescuers to the common cause of rectification of flood consequences in the Far East. In a solemn ceremony, the Deputy Head of the Far Eastern Regional Center on Supervisory Activity of the Russian Emergencies Ministry, Natalia Moiseenko, handed rescuers deserved awards and thanked everyone for their courage and fortitude.
