Children's ombudsman for the President of the Russian Federation informed that the demographic policy in Yakutia has been successful

The national conference “Modern Protective Ways of Families with Underage Children: The Best Russian Experience” was held in Yakutsk. Pavel Astakhov stated that the number of children left in maternity hospitals decreased by ten times in the period from 2002 to 2012.

The Children's Rights Commissioner emphasized that it has been two years since his last visit to the Republic. The Yakutian government has improved measures in the sphere of children’s protection. “The Republican government managed not only to save its tradition and culture, but also its population. Yakutia is the only region the Far Eastern federal district which has a positive natural increase rate. Such tendencies are important for our country. Preservation of population is the issue of national safety,” Astakhov informed.
