Novgorod region to present Yakutsk village with a chapel

The chapel with an inside decoration and a copy of the lost icon Our Lady of the Sign, built according to the old Novgorod traditions, will be presented to residents of Russkoe Ustie village, located in the North of Yakutia. It became possible thanks to the initiative of Sergey Mitin, the governor of Novgorod region, and Lev, the Novgorod and old Russian metropolitan.

Russkoe Ustie is the oldest village in the Republic. Historians believe that it was founded by Novgorod residents, who were running away from Ivan the Terrible’s army chasing them.
The present to Yakuts from their ancestors is timed to the 375th anniversary of Russkoe Ustie.
