Vice-Governor of Niigata Prefecture: We Are Waiting for You in Niigata

On September 12, in Yakutsk the delegations of Niigata Prefecture, Japan, and the Yakut government participated in a meeting, where they discussed the prospects of cooperation in various fields, in particular, the development of bilateral tourism between Niigata and the Republic of Sakha (Yakutia).

At the meeting the Japanese side was represented by Vice-Governor of Niigata Hanazumi Hideo, the Vice Mayor of Niigata, leaders of the airport department and the tourism development department, the Chamber of Commerce & Industry of Niigata Prefecture and representatives of travel agencies, the Yakut side was represented by Vice Prime Minister of the Republic of Sakha (Yakutia) Alexander Vlasov, Acting Minister of Federal Affairs and External Relations of Sakha (Yakutia) Mikhail Kulikov, Deputy Minister of Entrepreneurship  and Tourism Development of Sakha (Yakutia) Lena Kurbanalieva, Russian Foreign Ministry spokesman in Yakutsk, and representatives of the "Yakutia" Airline.

They discussed the development of cooperation between the Japanese Prefecture and the Republic of Sakha (Yakutia) in such areas as tourism, economy, culture, business, education, and the possibility of direct flights from Yakutia to Niigata and back. The Japanese side noted that Yakutia has great prospects in terms of agriculture, and in the future they plan to invest in the technology of agriculture of Yakutia.

Ignorance of a Japanese tourist as to the existence of tourism opportunities in Yakutia is one of the reasons of the poor tourist traffic from Japan to Yakutia, when a Japanese tourist flies to Finland to see the Northern Lights. They do not realize that in Yakutia, within four hour’s flight, they can see the same natural phenomenon, but much more beautiful one. In turn, Niigata is very proud of high-quality children's and youth tourism organization: beach-related rest, an impressive aquarium with a dolphinarium, summer festivals of dance, fruit picking, fireworks known worldwide. It was decided to inform people about tourism opportunities on both sides.

In conclusion, Vice Prime Minister of the Republic of Sakha (Yakutia) Alexander Vlasov presented a Yakut choron to the Vice-Governor of Niigata, as a sign of the first step on the road of new mutually beneficial relationships.
